Peter Fasano got his start hand-painting fabrics in his home in New York City in the 1970s, and his unique and colorful designs quickly gained popularity. Following apprenticeships with industry greats, including Albert Hadley and Harry Hinson, Peter continued to refine his style and technique. In the 1990s, Peter relocated his company to the Berkshires and hired a team of incredible designers to assist in expanding the brand’s portfolio. That team is still in place today, carrying on the Peter Fasano tradition of creating eclectic and fun designs with a wonderful new palette of colors for today’s sensibilities.
They mix all of their environmentally-friendly inks by hand and employ a variety of printing methods, from hand-screening to drag-box striping, to achieve the perfect handmade product.
We are lucky enough to have Reid Stewart, owner of the iconic design brand Peter Fasano sit down and answer some of our questions- Let's get to know him a bit as well as this iconic brand.
Q: When did you decide that you wanted to enter the world of textile and wallpaper design?
A: My mother is a very talented designer and had her own firm when I was growing up. So I was exposed to the design world at a young age and lived in a house that was intricately layered with amazing textiles and wallpapers from all the top brands like Brunschwig, Clarence House, and even Peter Fasano! So perhaps my career was predestined!
Q: What is your favorite pattern you've created to date?
A: Definitely Botanica. I was inspired by the beautiful Wisteria growing behind our office. So I had our artists develop an interpretative stripe that we now have as a wonderful fabric and grasscloth.

Q: Do you have anything new and exciting in the works?
A: We have a lot of new patterns and collections in the works! But one of the most exciting developments is our entry into the wovens market this fall which is a first for Peter Fasano in the 40+ year history of the brand. We’re starting small and will thoughtfully grow that aspect of the brand over time.
Q: Which design trend is overused in your mind?
A: I’ll turn the question around and answer it by touching on what I think is an underused trend, and that is fabric-upholstered walls. I think it can add a warmth and charm to the right space and is the sign of a confident designer.
Q: What would your theme song be?
A: Fast Car” by Tracy Chapman (and Luke Combs) since racing cars is my other passion!
